    Cooking with Scraps

    For the first time ever, the USDA has set a nationwide goal to reduce food waste (a whopping 133 billion pounds per year) -- 50 percent by 2030. This growing movement is sweeping the food scene as evident in Lindsey-Jean Hard's new cookbook - Cooking with Scraps. Learn how to turn your peels, cores, rinds, stems, and other edible odds and ends into delicious meals. Easton Public Market's house chef Ada Chandler will prepare five different recipes from the book for sampling, and demonstrate a variety of tips and tricks for using unused scraps and oft-discarded foods like tomato skins, potato water, and canned bean liquid. The cookbook's author, Lindsey-Jean Hard, will join the event, live via Skype. There will be opportunity for Q&A with both the author and Chef Ada, and even a little hands-on cooking!

    All participants receive 20% off the purchase price of the cookbook at the event offered by Easton’s Book & Puppet Co.

    ‘Kids in the Kitchen’ with Chef Ada Chandler focuses on building the culinary confidence of your child through kid-friendly classes, demonstrations, and interactive events.  Along with new techniques and recipes that are taught weekly, Chef Ada teaches proper kitchen hygiene along with safe kitchen utensil handling at every class.

    This week's recipe: Halloween Sugar Cookie Cake.  With a little hocus pocus, kids will magically create these festive cookies full of bats, sprinkles and anything else our wicked little hands can spook up.
